AMASYA
History
Amasya province is situated in the Yesilirmak River Valley in the Central Black Sea region. Its history dates back 7500 years to the very earliest days of history in Anatolia. First settlement in the province started in 5500 BC. Archeological finds date back to Chalcolitic, Bronze, Hittite, Frigian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman periods. Hittites who conquered the region about 1650 BC left their finger prints on the region. Amasya, invaded by Frigians in 1200 BC, was occupied by Khimmers after the fall of Frigian Empire in 700 BC. Amasya became a dominion of Med Empire and in 585 BC annexed by Persian Empire. Following Alexandre the Great's invasion of Anatolia in 331 BC, Amasya remained under Macedonian rule for a period of time, and became the capital city of Pontus Empire in 291 BC, which established after the fall of Persian Empire. The city became a Roman territory between 20 BC and 395 AD. There are still remnants of Roman aquaducts, castles, bridges. Amasya, which remained under Byzantine rule for 700 years, was conquered by Seljuks. Ottoman Crown Prince Beyazit include the city in the Ottoman territories.
Climate
Mixture of Black Sea and continental climate. During summer it is not that much hot with limited rainfall, but at the same time is not that much rainy as it is in the Black Sea climate. Winters are not as milder as the Black Sea climate while it is not as cold as continental climate.
