KASTAMONU
History
Kastamonu region which is known as an ancient settlement area, had been the country of Kashkas in the 18 th century B.C. and then it had been ruled by Hittites, Phrygians, Cimmerians, Lydians Persians, Pontos, Roman and Byzantine Empires. After the Turks had to arrive in Anatolia, Kastamonu which oppened its doors and heart to Danishmands, Anatolian Seljukians and Ottoman Empire. Kastamonu is one of the rare cities where traditional Turkish houses and the latest Ottoman architecture samples are found densely. Old buildings of Kastamonu, Taskopru, Kure, Inebolu and Abana which have been taken under protection arouse nostalgia and admiration of visitors. During theTurkish National Struggle for Independence Kastamonu had become very helpful by means of logistical support by provisions and ammunition and transporting men from Inebolu port to Ankara. The boatmen of Inebolu had been rewarded with a medal of the Turkish Independance War.
Kastamonu has a wonderful nature as well as the historical and cultural wealths it inherited. Kastamonu has been serving the poeple who are looking for sea, sand and sun with its not pollutedand not concreted 135 km coast line there are a lot of natural beaches and dense forest beyond them Abana, Inebolu, Doganyurt and Cide beaches are the nearest to Ankara.
